The Problem

Getting to our destination within the city should be a better experience. Whether it’s a bus that never shows up on time, an intersection that always makes you late, or that part of your bike route that puts you in traffic with no protection. We have fallen behind as a city in ensuring how we get across town is safer, more convenient, and less frustrating.

The Solution

Cut wait times at the worst intersections.

Every extra minute in traffic is time not with your family, not at work, not at the appointment you were already late for. The federal and provincial dollars for London’s smart traffic system are already in. The equipment is being installed. My plan layers on top of that with a free tool called Google’s Project Green Light, which finds where signals are timed wrong and recommends fixes based on live data. Engineers review and choose what to implement. London hasn’t applied. It costs nothing.

Connect to neighbourhoods the BRT forgot or can’t reach.

A senior in Cedar Hollow shouldn’t have to depend on a family member for a ride to a medical appointment. A student in Stoney Creek shouldn’t be locked out of a job because there is no bus route near their home. The BRT and bus stops only work if people can get to them. On-demand transit, booked by app or phone, fills that gap.

Make cycling a real way to get around, not just a weekend thing.

For a lot of Londoners, biking to work or school would be the obvious choice if the route felt safe. On roads too narrow for a protected bike lane, multi-use paths for cyclists and pedestrians are the proven approach. Adelaide Street already uses them. Cycling becomes a real option, not just recreation.

What This Means For You

For drivers:

  • Predictive traffic light timing creates less time at red lights, including around accidents and work zones.
  • Every rider on a bus or user of a bike lane is one less car at the intersection ahead of you.

For seniors, students, people with disabilities, and anyone without a car:

  • On-demand mini-buses increase the success of the BRT and create real transportation alternatives for neighbourhoods.
  • On-demand service creates independence and a real affordable option.

For cyclists:

  • A real bike network for getting to work, school, and the store creates cost savings for families, young professionals, and modest wage earners.
  • Cycling year-round becomes a viable option when the infrastructure is designed for it.

A Proven Model

  • Quebec City joined Google’s Project Green Light in 2025 and saw up to 30% fewer stops at the intersections they tuned.
  • Boston expanded from a pilot to 114 intersections across 20 neighbourhoods in 2025, reporting up to 33% fewer unnecessary stops at tuned intersections.
  • Belleville replaced its evening fixed-route buses with on-demand transit. Nighttime ridership rose 300%. Bus mileage dropped 30%. More than 15 Canadian cities have adopted the model since.

My Proposal

  • Apply for Google’s Project Green Light. Free predictive timing. Already working in Canada.
  • Get Ward 3 into the next wave of on-demand transit. Connecting Cedar Hollow, Stoney Creek, Huron Heights, and the northern neighbourhoods to the rapid lines.
  • Build multi-use paths for everyday cycling. Connected routes for getting around, not at the expense of main road capacity.
