

Ward 3 has outgrown a transportation system built for yesterday’s city. Parts of the ward can’t easily reach a bus route. Driving across town takes far longer than it should.
The federal and provincial dollars for London’s smart traffic system are already in. The equipment is being installed. My plan layers on top of what taxpayers have already paid for via a free tool for smarter traffic sequencing. The concept: add the predictive traffic management layer for free. Google’s Project Green Light gives city engineers an AI tool that finds where signals are timed wrong and recommends fixes based on live data. Engineers review the recommendations and choose what to implement. London hasn’t applied. It costs nothing. On-demand transit for Ward 3, now. The BRT only works if people can get to it. Cedar Hollow, Stoney Creek, Huron Heights, and the northern reaches of the ward can’t, today. An on-demand transit system fixes that via bus bookings by app or phone. Multi-use paths for everyday cycling. More people would ride to work, to school, and to the mall if the routes felt safe, and actually connected to where they were going. With multi-use paths separated from traffic, wide enough for bikes and pedestrians. They fit without taking away main road capacity, allowing cycling to become a means of transportation, not just for recreation.
Quebec City joined Google’s Project Green Light in 2025 and saw up to 30% fewer stops at the intersections they tuned. Boston expanded from a pilot to 114 intersections across 20 neighbourhoods in 2025, reporting up to 33% fewer unnecessary stops at tuned intersections. Belleville replaced its evening fixed-route buses with on-demand transit. Nighttime ridership rose 300%. Bus mileage dropped 30%. More than 15 Canadian cities have adopted the model since.
